Ashy Skies Return as Cameron Peak Fire Grows Close to 35,000 Acres
Heavy ash is once again raining down upon the cities and towns located near the burning Cameron Peak Fire.
The smoky odor has again become quite noticeable from the flames burning about 60 miles from Fort Collins over 34,289 acres, as of Sunday morning's (Sept. 6) latest official update.
Smoke increased as dry, windy weekend conditions led to the fire growing by more than 10,000 acres since Friday. Some evacuations that had been previously lifted were put back into place.
More than 800 firefighters from various states are fighting the flames. Potential Tuesday snowfall could significantly help firefighting efforts.
