Stanley Hotel Hosts Hundreds Of Firefighters, Serves 1,000 Meals
The Stanley Hotel is famous for rumors of ghosts, being the inspiration for “The Shining” and a set location for “Dumb & Dumber.”
The storied Estes Park hotel is also giving back as fires ravage the area by providing lodging and meals for firefighter heroes.
Stanley Hotel owner John Cullen told Denver 7, “The Fire Marshal Kevin Sullivan called me and said ‘hey can I have a couple of free rooms?’ With every hour that number went up a hundred rooms and we have about 500 in house now and we’re going to feed about 800 tonight.”
Cullen went on to say that the 110-year-old hotel has the largest collection of kindling in Colorado and the Stanley will continue to support firefighters for as long as they need.
During the winter months, the Stanley Hotel keeps a very small staff with only nine on site at the moment. “My front office manager worked until 6:00 in the morning,” Cullen told Denver 7, as the hotel prepares to serve 1,000 meals per day.
At 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, the Cameron Peak Fire Facebook page posted, "Snow, cold temperatures, and wind are creating unsafe wind chills and road conditions and difficult access in many areas".
Together, the Cameron Peak Fire and East Troublesome Fire cover over 400,000 acres.
