Wyoming junior defensive end Carl Granderson has earned Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week honors for the first time in his career.

Granderson had six tackles, including a sack, a safety and an interception in Wyoming’s 28-23 road win over Utah State last Saturday.

His safety with 37 seconds left sealed the Cowboys’ victory, while Granderson’s interception in the second quarter was the first of his career. All six of his tackles were for five yards or less. He also had a quarterback hurry.

Granderson is tied for the MW lead in sacks with four. He is second in the conference among defensive linemen in tackles per game at 5.5. He trails only sophomore teammate Youhanna Ghaifan in that category.

For the season, Granderson has 33 total tackles, four sacks and eight tackles for loss. In addition to the safety and interception, he has three QB hurries and has forced two fumbles.

Colorado State receiver Michael Gallup and Boise State returner Avery Williams were named Offensive and Special Teams Players of the Week in the MW, respectively.

The Pokes play at Boise State this Saturday at 8:15 p.m. The game is on ESPN2.
