University of Wyoming senior wrestler Branson Ashworth was chosen as the Big 12 Wrestler of the Week Monday.

Ashworth beat No. 5 Chandler Rogers in the Cowboys’ dual loss at No. 2 Oklahoma State Sunday in Stillwater, OK. The victory by decision for Ashworth was 4-1. After a scoreless first period, the senior controlled the last two periods in his win. A takedown in the third sealed his victory.

It marked the 10th win this season for Ashworth. He is also 4-1 this season versus ranked opponents. With Ashworth’s victory Sunday and combined with a 3-0 win over No. 9 Isaiah White of Nebraska, the senior has beaten a pair of top-10 foes in consecutive matches.

It’s the second consecutive week UW has earned the Big 12 Wrestler of the Week award, after Cole Verner won it on Nov. 19.

Wyoming wrestling returns to action Friday and Saturday at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational.
