Wyoming Wildlife Officials Kill 1 Bear, Relocate 2 Others

JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. (AP) — Wildlife officials have killed one black bear and transferred two others to remote areas away from a Wyoming resort town.

The Jackson Hole News & Guide reported Monday that Grand Teton National Park rangers were unable to trap the female black bear that was seeking food in populated areas.

Officials say the bear had received "food rewards" from people on at least four occasions since June.

Officials say the bear exhibited "habituated behavior" that led it to approach humans, including climbing onto a picnic table with people around it.

Two other bears have been captured and relocated by Grand Teton and state rangers.

One of the animals that had been previously tagged by biologists also exhibited behavior formed after being fed by humans, including putting its paws on an occupied vehicle.
