Wyoming native Rob Wallace is the best choice to fill the position of assistant secretary for Fish, Wildlife and Parks within the U.S. Department of Interior, Wyoming Republican Sen. Mike Enzi said in a news release Tuesday.

Enzi introduced Wallace at a confirmation hearing today before the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, chaired by Wyoming Republican Sen. John Barrasso.

Enzi has known Wallace for more than two decades, he said.

"Rob’s career and character reflect a man willing to step up and serve his community and country," he said. "His years of experience at Interior and in the halls of Congress have well-suited him for this new chapter."

Last month, President Donald Trump announced his intent to nominate Wallace for this key position overseeing the National Park Service and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

Once approved by the Environment and Public Works Committee and the Energy and Natural Resources Committee, Wallace must be confirmed by the full Senate before he can begin his duty as assistant secretary.
