LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) — The University of Wyoming's Migration Initiative is working to protect wildlife migration corridors through education and conservation efforts.

Wyoming Cooperative Research Unit Leader Matthew Kauffman said Wyoming has emerged as a leader in this field, mapping some of the longest and most famous migration corridors in the country.

The UW initiative aims to conserve migrations by doing research, while also developing new tools and methodologies that allow land managers to identify important corridors.

Kauffman says Wyoming has some of the most well-documented and most impressive migrations in the west that are still intact.

He says the work done on the Wyoming corridors has become something of an example of how to map and understand and conserve corridors around the West.
