Fort Bridger State Historic Site near Green River is one of the most haunted places in Wyoming. Along with several human spirits, the Fort is allegedly home to the ghost of an old dog who patrols the cemetery late at night.

Witnesses report the dog is decorated with a medal for heroism. According to legend, the dog was awarded the medal for saving a child from danger and now stands guard over the grave of his owner.

Some have speculated that the ghost could be Thornburg, an orphaned dog who followed soldiers to the Fort in the 1880s and was renowned for rescuing a drowning boy and alerting the camp during a raid by Ute Indians. The loyal companion died in 1888 and is buried alongside many soldiers.

Another historic army outpost in Wyoming, Fort Laramie, is also allegedly haunted by animals. Legend has it, the ghost of a cavalryman can often be seen riding around the area along with a Lady in Green on a black horse.
