Watch Two Fresh, Yet Familiar Faces Lead Laramie Soccer in 2019

The new high school soccer season is underway with a pair of new head coaches at Laramie High School for 2019.

Kim Whisenant and Dan Benford both stepped down after the conclusion of the 2018 season.

After a search was done to fill both open positions, Laramie High School hired Anne Moore and Raquel Clark, two familiar names to Laramie soccer fans.

Moore was the head coach at the University of Wyoming for nine seasons, 1999-2007, and has also coached youth programs, club teams, and Olympic Development Program (ODP) boys’ and girls’ squads. This is her first foray into being a high school head coach.

Moore visited with KOWB’s David Settle in a video. She said she’s actually had experience most of her career with boys’ teams and knows this program. She said she’s running things like a college team, describes her style of play, talked about the process and decision to go after the job, and more.

Clark has actually been a head coach at LHS before, for one season. Clark, whose maiden name was Macias, took the Lady Plainsmen to a second-place finish in her only season of 2011. She left town with her husband, but their family moved back a couple of years ago. Clark also has experience coaching at the youth club level.

In her visit video with David Settle, Clark admitted she wanted to get back involved and this opportunity came about, so she went after. She also said she’s coached a few of her current players when they were much younger, believes she has the same mentality for this program, explains her philosophy, and more.

Both “new” head coaches were successful in their debut last Saturday, as the Plainsmen beat Kelly Walsh, 3-1 after the Lady Plainsmen posted a 2-1 victory over the Trojans at the UW Indoor Practice Facility.
