Riverton Police are looking for information about a battlefield cross that was vandalized this week at Veterans Memorial Park outside City Hall.  The statue, depicting the iconic battle cross with combat boots, rifle, and helmet, was built in honor of Riverton native and United States Army Command Sgt. Major Kevin Griffin, who was killed by a suicide bomber in Afganistan in 2012.

The Riverton PD described the vandalism as a "purposeful act of disrespect to not only the monument, to the fallen Command Sergeant Major Griffin, but also to all of those who have served."

While police search for the culprits, local veterans have already vowed to replace the battlefield cross.

"We are all sick over this act but we will repair the CSM Griffin Memorial," Riverton Veterans Hall Chairman Jim Arndt pledged on Facebook.
