December 7 marks the anniversary of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, which claimed the lives of 2,403 Americans and three brave men from Wyoming.

One of the last surviving War World II veterans in Wyoming passed away on Wednesday. Sergeant James Vernon "Vern" Peterson was 96.

One of Wyoming's greatest heroes passed away Sunday at the age of 101. Clarence Varos was a Pearl Harbor survivor, WWII veteran, and longtime storekeeper for the Union Pacific Railroad in Cheyenne.

Sergeant Vern Peterson is one of the last surviving War World II veterans in Wyoming. Last week, the 97-year-old Rock Springs resident toured a replica of the B-17 bomber plane he flew on nearly 70 years ago.
