Laramie residents could see some smoke in the sky this weekend, when the Laramie Ranger District fire crews begin conducting prescribed burns Friday, April 27 and Sunday, April 29.
The EPA and National Weather Service are warning residents of Wyoming to be cautious of unhealthy air quality because of the amount of smoke in the air. This includes the cities of Casper, Cheyenne and Laramie, as well as others.
UW will partner with Colorado State University, the University of Montana, the University of Washington and the University of Colorado to study the impacts of wildfire smoke on cloud formation and climate.
Extreme fire growth Sunday resulting from single-digit humidity and wind gusts of 40 mph or more saw flames spread to the east and northeast of the fire's origin, with the blaze now nearing Huston Park Wilderness.
Crews pulled back to a contingency line and conducted a burnout operation to eliminate fuel between the control line and the wildfire, slowing the fire's advance.
