With the rugged surroundings, harsh weather and agrarian roots, Live the West is a fitting slogan for the city of Laramie. Another typical western tradition largely associated with Laramie is rodeo. Each year, Laramie hosts many rodeos, from youth rodeos, to high school and college rodeos, charity/fundraising rodeos and even Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association events.
This week we took a few moments to sit down with one of Laramie's newest businesses, High Country Heirlooms. Chances are that you might not have heard of them yet as the business just opened in January of this year and has been building their wood furniture inventory ever since. More specifically High Country Heirlooms produces custom hope and blanket chests along with a few other products.
Food is not fast. Nor is it standardized, microwaved or pre-determined. Such is the education given by my first visit to El Tamal when I sampled a meal that felt more of a journey across flavors and tastes and less an assembly of meats, grains and vegetables.
If you live in West Laramie it is hard to miss the new gas station being built at the intersection of highways 130 and 230. Construction on what will be called the "Gateway Complex" began back in July of 2011. The name is intended to reflect the location's gateway to the mountains. The new complex will consist of not only a 4,000 square foot convenience store, but also a 2,000 square foot liquor store. Many West Laramie citizens will be happy to hear that the convenience store will be larger than most.
If you have been in downtown Laramie lately, you might have noticed that the old Home Bakery has re-opened with a new concept and a new name; Bella Home Boutique & Bakery. The store opened back on Black Friday in November with a special 20% off sale on all their merchandise and all kinds of giveaways to celebrate their entrance into downtown Laramie.
Local food and craft beer are the foundation Andy Glines will be building The Crowbar and Grill on. Renovations are well underway at 202 S. 2nd St. as Glines hopes to be serving patrons in downtown Laramie by the end of January.
Two more retail liquor licenses are available to the City of Laramie and interested parties have started to make their case. Laramie received the licenses because of its increased population in the 2010 census. The city council could award the licenses to any of the eight parties who expressed interest during Tuesday’s work session.
Your Question:
What is happening on the UW land east of Ivinson Hospital? Seems like a major project is taking shape. How will this impact public use of this land as an area to jog and walk dogs?
