While Juneteenth is being recognized as a federal holiday for the first time this year, it's not a state holiday in Wyoming or many other states.

Upon the news that President Biden signed a bill that was passed by congress to officially commemorate June 19 (or 'Juneteenth') as a federal holiday, Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon has issued a statement of support for the decision.

The United States government is catching up with Black people who have been commemorating the end of slavery in the United States for generations with a day called “Juneteenth.”

The bill now goes to President Joe Biden's desk, and he is expected to sign it into law.

The holiday commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans and is usually celebrated with parades and festivals.

Celebrations held from coast to coast will include marches and demonstrations of civil disobedience.
