Somewhere in Cheyenne, there's a stretch of interstate where you'll actually hit a red light — and there's a surprisingly interesting reason that's even allowed.

We all know Wyoming has some of the most scenic roads in the country. However, as beautiful and majestic as some of those views may be when you're on the road, they can also be dangerous to travel on. Not only that, but they are some of the most dangerous in the U.S.

The Riverton office of the National Weather Service says the high wind warnings for central to east Wyoming will remain in effect until 6 p.m.

Falling fuel tax revenues have contributed to the budgetary bind.

Northbound lanes of I-25 were closed between Wheatland and US 18/20 at Exit 126 due to winter conditions and crashes.

The number and severity of crashes that contributed to the closure were not clear.

Winter storm warnings were posted Thursday for areas that included Cheyenne, Laramie, Wheatland and Lusk.

Road conditions throughout southeastern Wyoming vary, with WYDOT advising no unnecessary travel on several stretches of highway.

No projected opening time was provided with the closure announcement, which was emailed shortly before 11:45 a.m. Thursday.

The storm has forced WYDOT to close some area highways.
