Covering the trial of ex-Minneapolis police Officer Derek Chauvin in the death of George Floyd is a particularly intense experience for Black journalists.

Byrd took to Facebook Monday, a week after George Floyd's death, asking the black community to "use (their) voices to educate those who do not understand."

The case drew immediate comparisons to that of Eric Garner.
