Low temperatures of -20 or colder are expected.

Although the algae have been found in the causeway, the release says it has not been found in the reservoir itself, which supplies drinking water to the city of Cheyenne.

The algae can produce toxins that are bad for people, pets, livestock, and wildlife.

With the arrival of cold weather, the BOPU is reminding people to make sure their water pipes are ready for winter.

The project will start next month and continue through December.

Egenhoff says the water is safe to drink.
