The University of Wyoming has lost a beloved professor. On Thursday, March 17th, Ecosystem Science and Management instructor Professor Jay Norton, 61, lost his life while skiing in Northern Wyoming.

An investigation is underway after a snow biker was killed in an avalanche in southern Montana.

If you've ridden in the backcountry of Wyoming, you also understand the avalanche danger. One Wyoming snowmobiler has shared video and his story about an avalanche he was caught up in, but lived to tell the tale.

Officials say that the recent winter storm has created perfect avalanche conditions in the area.

The companion was uninjured and called 911 when he heard his partner calling for help.

Avalanche forecasters rated the danger high this weekend.

While avalanches that day were possible, Kervin says he and his friends believed conditions to be improving and decided to take the risk.

His ski partner did a brief beacon search but couldn't find him.

No injuries were reported.
