Wyoming has one of the best state governments in the country, according to a new study ranking each state based on how well they are managed.

Wyoming was ranked as the 16th "best-run state" overall, thanks to the largest rainy day fund in the nation, the 17th lowest poverty rate, and the eight-smallest budget shortfall for employee pensions.

Four of Wyoming's neighbors ranked among the ten best-run states in America, including Utah who ranked first, Idaho in fifth place, Colorado in sixth place, and Nebraska in tenth place. Montana is one of only four states without a "rainy day" fund and ranked 26th overall while South Dakota finished in 29th place.

Washington, Minnesota, and Oregon ranked among the five best-run states along with Utah and Idaho.  New Mexico ranked last in the study, followed by Louisiana, Mississippi, Alaska, and West Virginia.
