A small Wyoming town with just over 300 residents is also home to a historic 9/11 artifact.

The elementary school in Burns, Wyoming houses a piece of World Trade Center steel beam.  Burns is located just north of Interstate 80 between Cheyenne and Pine Bluffs in the southeast corner of the state.

According to a CNN article, in late 2010 the former mayor of Burns, Judy Johnstone, submitted an application to receive an artifact from the twin towers as they were being distributed across the country.

A few months later, in March 2011, the steel beam was delivered. It still currently sits on a shelf at the elementary school, however, there are plans to build a 9/11 memorial park.
