For the first time since 2004, the Laramie Lady Plainsmen soccer team will not be part of the semifinals at state soccer.

Laramie lost their first-round match Thursday to Kelly Walsh, 4-1. They will play a consolation, loser-out match at 9 a.m. Friday versus Star Valley. It will be the first-ever meeting in girls’ soccer between the two schools.

The Lady Plainsmen got a goal from Jayla Wulff in the first five minutes of Thursday’s match versus the Trojans. Kelly Walsh scored in the 31st minute of the first half, and the match was tied, 1-1, at halftime.

The Trojans scored the game-winning, go-ahead goal in the 64th minute of play. They added two goals in the final four minutes to seal their victory over LHS.

Laramie had not lost a first-round match since a 2004 setback against Riverton.

The Lady Plainsmen must win Friday’s consolation match to continue their season. If they win, they would play for a consolation trophy at 1 p.m. Saturday.
