With Halloween fast approaching in Laramie, it is important for young and old alike to celebrate the horror-filled holiday with safety and a bit of cautiousness.  We at Laramie Live spoke with Beth Young, the Emergency Response Coordinator for Albany County Public Health about safety ideas for the Halloween season and the Flu season (sadly they overlap).

HALLOWEEN SAFETY TIPS:

  • If you're going to go out at night, wear reflective gear!
  • Wearing light colored clothes is another great idea.
  • Carry a flashlight
  • If you're going to be driving, always be aware of trick-or-treaters who may be near!
  • Don't chew on Glow Sticks! (Children)

FLU SEASON SAFETY TIPS:

  • Wash Hands frequently!
  • If you have to sneeze or cough, do it into your shirt sleeve- NOT YOUR HANDS!
  • Make sure you have an Emergency Plan- if the daycare provider is ill, who can you call?
  • Have an emergency preparedness kit with 72 hours of supplies including food and water, complete with medications and accommodations for pets.
  • Be aware of local emergency plans.
  • Be sure to have a personal evacuation and meet-up plans.
