Over the weekend, K2 Radio News learned that what is described as a “serious hazing incident” happened on a Riverton High School bus that was in Natrona County at the time.

Because of the jurisdictional issues, the Natrona County Sheriff’s Office is handling the investigation to determine if there is anything criminal involved in the incident. But the Fremont County School district #25 has already acted on the academic side.

Three of the students involved have been expelled, and one suspended.

Superintendent Terry Snyder issued this statement today.

“Last week Fremont County School District #25 administrators received information about an issue that may have occurred on one of our activity trips. We immediately began a thorough investigation. We have interviewed everyone wh might have witnessed or been involved in  the events. We have completed our initial investigation, but the investigation will be ongoing. We will be recommending the expulsion of three individuals and the suspension of one other student. The Board of Trustees will consider these recommendations as soon as possible in coordination with the criminal investigation being conducted by the Natrona County Sheriff’s Office. The students being recommended for expulsion will remain suspended until the discipline hearing is Conducted. The school district is cooperating fully with the criminal investigation.

All students must be treated with respect and dignity. The school district has no tolerance for any act of hazing, bullying or initiation on any level.”

The Sheriff’s Office could not comment until the investigation is complete.
