Retrial for Laramie Man Accused of Sexual Assault Begins Monday
A Laramie man accused of sexually assaulting a woman in October 2016 will stand trial again beginning next week in Albany County District Court, after his earlier trial ended in a mistrial.
The 25-year-old man is charged with one count of first degree sexual assault and one count of kidnapping and confinement, if convicted of the charges, he faces up to life in prison.
According to court documents, the man was arrested after police responded to a report of a possible sexual assault at the Ranger Bar on Oct 29 at about 2:30 a.m. The victim told the officer that the man had held her against her will in the women’s bathroom and sexually assaulted her.
The officer obtained video footage from the Ranger that appeared to corroborate the victim’s report. The victim underwent a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner, or SANE, exam at Ivinson Memorial Hospital and also identified the defendant in a six-photo lineup on Nov. 4, court documents state.
The man’s earlier trial ended in a mistrial on June 23. His new trial is scheduled to run through Friday, Oct. 6.
