The public can view and offer opinions on exterior design plans for the University of Wyoming’s Rochelle Athletics Center/Mick and Susie McMurry High Altitude Performance Center at a community meeting Tuesday.

The meeting will be held at 5 p.m. in the Wildcatter Stadium Club and Suites on the east side of War Memorial Stadium.  The new building will be constructed nearby, on the south end of the Rochelle Athletics Center.

The public will be able to look over renderings of the planned exterior before and after Tuesday’s meeting, which will include a presentation on the exterior design and an opportunity for the public to ask questions about the project.

The project is projected to cost $44 million.  Construction is expected to begin this summer and conclude near the end of 2018.  GE Johnson Construction of Jackson was selected as construction manager at risk.

The UW Board of Trustees recently adopted a policy calling for a community meeting to seek public input on exterior design plans for the building.

An architectural advisory committee was appointed to guide exterior design planning in accordance with the policy.  The committee is comprised of UW Trustee John McKinley, state Sen. Phil Nicholas, Wyoming State Bank President Gary Crum, UW Foundation President Ben Blalock, and Athletics Director Tom Burman.

The new facility is part of a strategic plan for the UW Department of Athletics.  The new and renovated facilities will include an expanded academics center and sports medicine center; a new football weight room and locker room; office space and meeting rooms for the football program; and a training table to meet the nutritional demands of student-athletes.
