A recent article from Distractify.com stated that "while marriage can benefit men it doesn't necessarily benefit women."

They went on to share the thoughts of Paul Dolan, a professor and author of the book "Happy Ever After: Escaping the Myth of the Perfect Life".

In an interview with the Guardian, Dolan said "[Married Men] take less risks, you earn more money at work, and you live a little longer. She, on the other hand, has to put up with that, and dies sooner than if she never married. The healthiest and happiest population subgroup are women who never married or had children,”

As a married mom of 5 that stings a bit.

And I can agree that there ARE some things I miss from my life as a single non-mom.

Like sleep.

That being said, I wouldn't trade the kind of happiness I have now as a wife and mother for that single life

Perhaps it all boils down to how you personally define happiness, or how your view of what happiness is changes as YOU grow and change.

In the end that's what Dolan preaches in his book.

Don't get caught up in what society says SHOULD make you happy (marriage and kids or a cushy high paying job), instead take time to reflect and do what brings YOU joy and fulfillment.
