The fifth-ranked Laramie Plainsmen dominated third-ranked Cheyenne Central 9-1 Monday at the UW Indoor Practice Facility.

Laramie led 2-0 at half and exploded for seven goals in the second half. They led 7-0 before Central put on in the back of the net.

Head coach Dan Benford knew his squad connected the best they have all season.

“This is what we’ve been building towards. We’ve been moving the ball well; we’ve been able to maintain possession and control possession; we’ve been struggling to find goals; that certainly wasn’t a struggle tonight.”

Anthony Castano and Alexis Eleuterio led the Plainsmen with two goals and an assist apiece.

Eleuterio tallied in the ninth minute off a rebound from a Blake Moore shot. Laramie made it 2-0 on Enrique Isidro’s goal off an assist by Castano in the 27th minute.

The Plainsmen then exploded for four goals in the first 15 minutes of the second half. Castano put-back a shot from Cameron Campbell five minutes in. Then Campbell scored two minutes later of a feed from Moore. That made it 4-0. In the 52nd minute, Eleuterio netted his second goal on Moore’s third assist. Castano played give-and-go with Eleuterio for his second tally in the 55th minute.

Castano admitted that it was a special game for them.

“We know what we should be doing, and how we should be scoring goals, but I think today, we just played better, and we clicked… We played how our coach wanted us to. He wanted to get us into wide spaces, and we did it. It worked well.”

After an own goal by Central made it 7-0 LHS, the Indians got on the scoreboard with a Ross Elliott goal in the 63rd minute.

Laramie tacked on two more goals from Alex Moreno and Will Kozlowski for the final score of 9-1.

The Plainsmen are now 4-2 on the season and 2-2 in the 4A East Conference. They are back in action Thursday at Cheyenne East.
