Mainstreet Pinedale’s Winter Carnival is on through President’s Day. A favorite thing on the schedule is a competition between vehicles made out of cardboard in all shapes and sizes. Some may not look as if they were made very efficiently for speed, but who cares? Some just look cool. And yes, these are all made of all cardboard.

What can be so cute is when a little one, trying his or her but off, veers totally sideways and heads straight for a snowbank - which is fortunately built up just for that misfortune. I feel bad for the kid, but also I can't stop laughing, "Ohhh, gosh, that was a terrible tumble!" The UP, however, looks like it's motoring along nice and smooth.

Registration to get in on that cardboard action starts Sunday at 10 a.m. See more info of the weekend festivities here. And here.

Since the 1950s in Pinedale, mid-February is time to SKI-JOR, or just watch it, which is also fun. Let’s call it “skiing with real horse power” ... with a rope involved.
