‘No Roosters In The Desert’ Play April 4-5 in Laramie

An original play that tells the journey of four women crossing the border from Mexico to the United States to seek a better life will be staged Friday, April 4, and Saturday, April 5, at 7 p.m. in the University of Wyoming College of Education auditorium.

“No Roosters in the Desert,” written by Kara Hartzler and directed by Luis Guerrero, is among the 18th annual Shepard Symposium on Social Justice events this week on campus. The UW Latina/o Studies Program and Zocalo Arts Collective sponsor the production along with the Shepard Symposium.

The play is free, but a limited number of tickets are available by visiting the UW African American Diaspora Studies Program and Latina/o Studies Program offices, located in rooms 111 and 106 in Ross Hall.

“No Roosters in the Desert” follows four women as they attempt to cross the border from Mexico to the United States, but face the unforgiving desert, dehydration, death, deportation and cultural and social issues. Guerrero draws on his own experience as a Mexican immigrant to imbue the play with his personal insight.

An audience question-and-answer session follows the play both evenings.
