One of two New York state residents arrested for intending to deliver marijuana during a December traffic stop on I-80 pleaded not guilty Thursday in Albany County District Court.

Barry William Connor, 25, of Clifton Park, N.Y. pleaded not guilty to felony charges of possession of a controlled substance marijuana and possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance marijuana. If convicted on both charges he could face up to 15 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.

Judge Jeffrey Donnell set Connor’s trial for May 24 and 25.

Court documents say a Wyoming Highway Patrol trooper stopped a grey Volkswagen Tiguan for speeding on I-80 eastbound near milepost 288 at 9:23 a.m. Dec. 30. The trooper became suspicious that Connor and the other man in the car – 24-year-old Zachary Sasz – were engaged in criminal activity.

The trooper deployed K-9 Frosty, and the dog alerted to the presence of a controlled substance in the vehicle. A search revealed 18 packages of marijuana weighing over 19 pounds as well as a small baggie containing about .8 grams of suspected cocaine.

Troopers also found $1,374 in cash along with five cell phones.

Connor – whose $10,000 cash bond has been posted – said in court Thursday that he is working at a pizza place near his home in New York.
