Alexander’s Fine Jewelry recently asked the students of the various elementary schools in Laramie to create a piece of artwork that depicted what they loved most about their moms.

The invitation was extended to all elementary schools in Albany County; participating institutions include Slade, Beitel, Linford, Rock River and Spring Creek Elementary, Snowy Range Academy and the University of Wyoming Lab School.

Originally designed to be a window display to honor moms for Mother’s Day, the overwhelming response of the schools necessitated some expansion!

After covering every showcase in the store with lovingly detailed art, and still finding stacks more, it was decided, in conjunction with the Laramie Main Street Alliance, to make a downtown art walk out of it.  Wall and window space was then found in other downtown businesses.

The art will be on display from May 3rd through the 31st at the following locations: Alexander’s Fine

Jewelry, The Copper Kettle,  Poppy’s, The Curiosity Shoppe and the Laramie Main Street Alliance office at 207 Grand Ave.

Seeing things through the eyes of a child is well worth the trip downtown to view the drawings.  One youngster declares that they “love [their] mom as big as the tallest giraffes stacked on each other.”  The accompanying drawing features a stack of 3 giraffes on one side, and the mother and child on the other with a stack of hearts above reaching even higher than the giraffes.

Other popular themes include loving moms who give hugs, make food, play games, (including “socr”) and allow their children to choose their own desserts.
