A 59-year-old Nevada man is dead after flipping his car near Rock Springs.

The crash happened around 12:45 p.m. Friday at milepost 101.5 on Interstate 80.

The Wyoming Highway Patrol says John Perez was traveling east at a high rate of speed when he used the right-hand shoulder to pass multiple vehicles, re-entered the eastbound lanes and drove into the median.

Perez's car hit the guardrail and then the cable barrier, flipping multiple times before coming to rest in the westbound lanes.

Perez was not wearing his seat belt and died from his injuries.

The patrol says speed and other factors may have contributed to the crash.

Perez is the 135th person to die on Wyoming's highways this year.
