A man was killed in a motorcycle crash near Laramie after trying to elude law enforcement at 5:39 p.m. Sat, July 15.

Lawrence White, 56, was traveling south on U.S. 287 when a Wyoming Highway Patrol trooper attempted to pull him over for driving over 90 mph in a 70 mph area, according to Wyoming Highway news release. White did not pull over and the trooper reported that the speed of White’s motorcycle increased significantly. The trooper said that White appeared to be eluding.

The trooper continued to pursue White down U.S. 287 when White pulled off onto Cherokee Park Road, which is a dirt and gravel road, according to the release. White attempted to negotiate a right hand curve at a high rate of speed and lost control of the motorcycle. The motorcycle left the road, tripped and rolled. White was thrown from the motorcycle and succumbed to his injuries on the scene, despite life-saving efforts by the Trooper.

White was wearing a helmet when he crashed. The WHP is still investigating why White was attempting to elude law enforcement.

This marks the 75th fatality on Wyoming’s highways in 2017, compared to 49 in 2016, 71 in 2015, and 74 in 2014.
