A new way of producing and eating your veggies is growing here in Laramie.  Nate Storey along with his business partner Paul Bennick are producing locally grown lettuce, herbs, and greens. Using (Aquaponics) a new technology for growing vegetables with fish waste for the main nutrients. Nate studying alternative growing techniques at the University of Wyoming and studying for his PhD has developed this new way of growing locally and selling locally.

The Aquaponics technique is being featured at Big Hollow food in downtown Laramie, 119 South 1st, phone: 307-745-3586. The local produced, high quality produce is being sold at $5.50 lb for fresh cut greens. Produce can be sold for this price because there are virtually no shipping costs and relatively inexpensive to grow. Nate says that other markets are being considered but local growers would be needed for the process to work in other communities like Laramie.

Fairly soon more varieties will be offered like fresh herbs including parsley, thyme, cilantro and basil. Different lettuce varieties are being introduced like head lettuce, mustard greens and bok choy. When you come into Big Hollow Foods the greens are located on the left past the milk display. I recently purchased enough lettuce for a dinner salad for 2 and the cost was under a dollar for the salad greens.
