Wyoming Congresswoman Liz Cheney said Wednesday evening that articles of impeachment which were later passed in the House on a mostly party-line vote "may permanently damage our Republic."

She also called the impeachment effort ''partisan, reckless and dangerous." The House approved two Articles of Impeachment. Article I, accusing the president of abuse of power, passed on a 230-197 vote. Article II, accusing the president of obstruction of congress, passed by a margin of 229-198.

The impeachment effort now moves on to the U.S. Senate, where a 2/3 majority vote would be needed to remove Trump from office. Because Republicans have a majority of the senate seats, the effort to remove the president from office would require significant GOP support to succeed.

Not a single House Republican voted for impeachment in the House votes on Wednesday. Trump becomes the third U.S. president to be impeached, joining Bill Clinton and Andrew Johnson.

Neither Clinton nor Johnson was removed from office, although Johnson survived the senate vote by only a single vote.
