Late Run Propels UNLV Past The Wyoming Cowgirls, 58-55

The Wyoming Cowgirls lost their Mountain West opener in Las Vegas to UNLV 58-55 Wednesday. The Rebels used a 16-3 run late that pushed them past UW.

UNLV (4-8, 1-0) trailed 50-42 with 4:42 left. The Rebels hit their only four 3-pointers of the game in the key run. Add-in a pair of lay-ups, and UNLV held a 58-53 edge with just over a minute left.

Wyoming (5-6, 0-1) got a lay-in and subsequent steal from Marquelle Dent. After a timeout, the Cowgirls had two opportunities to tie the game in final 19 seconds, but 3-pointers by Dent and Kayla Woodward were no good.

Head Coach Joe Legerski said, "UNLV made some plays down the end which was the difference in the ball game."

Prior to the Rebels run, UW had one of their own. The Cowgirls were down 38-36, but responded with a 12-2 run. Woodward had eight points, which included a pair of three's. Jordan Sibrel added a pair of baskets, as Wyoming went in front 48-40, but they couldn't hold the advantage.

Sibrel led the Cowgirls with a career-high 14 points and six rebounds. Jordan Kelley posted career-highs with ten points and 14 rebounds. It was the first double-double of her career.

Legerski said, "I thought the play of Jordan Kelley and Jordan Sibrel gave us an opportunity to win tonight. Jordan Kelley got a double-double in her start and Jordan Sibrel converted when given the opportunity."

Wyoming struggled shooting the ball. They hit only 35 percent from the field and were 4-26 (15.4%) from beyond the arc.

Danielle Miller scored a game-high 26 points to lead the Rebels. They shot 37 percent from the floor.

The game featured 11 lead changes and four ties.

The Cowgirls will try to bounce back on Saturday when they host the San Jose State Spartans in Laramie. Tip-off is at 2 p.m. in the Arena-Auditorium.
