Laramie House Fire Leaves 1 Dead; Cause Under Investigation

Officials are working to determine what sparked a Sunday afternoon house fire that left a Laramie resident dead.

Laramie Fire Department Shift Commander Gus Stonum says firefighters were called to the scene around 3 p.m. following an alarm activation.

"During this time, the 911 dispatch operator was on the phone with the resident, who reported being unable to evacuate the home," Stonum said in a media release Monday evening.

"Engine 3 arrived on scene and began fire suppression efforts and searching for the resident seven minutes after the initial 911 call was received," he added.

Stonum says three other units arrived on the scene, and the last team located the trapped resident, who was immediately taken to Ivinson Memorial Hospital by the on-scene ambulance.

"Despite the swift and coordinated efforts of all responding units, the occupant did not survive the injuries sustained during the incident," said Stonum.

"Our thoughts and condolences are with the family and friends of the deceased during this difficult time," he added.

Stonum says the Wyoming State Fire Marshal's Office was notified and is currently conducting a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the fire.

"We extend our gratitude to all emergency personnel who responded and provided their assistance," Stonum said.

"Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available from the investigation," he added.
