Mike Lansing Field, Casper, WY (David Settle)

A slow start and lack of offense plagued the Laramie Rangers, as they lost their first round game 7-2 to the Sheridan Troopers on Wednesday at the 2012 Wyoming American Legion Baseball State Tournament in Casper. Laramie fell behind 4-0 and could never fully recover.

Sheridan (48-9) scored twice in the first and third innings for the early advantage. The Rangers rallied with one run in both the 4th and 5th innings. A delayed steal of home by Alex Jordan got Laramie on the board. Then Abel Casas came through with an rbi-single scoring Tyler Mitchell. That cut the deficit to 4-2. It was as close as the Rangers would get. Sheridan got two insurance runs in the 7th and one more in the 9th.

The Troopers turned things over to their starting pitcher Kalvin Eisenach, who shut Laramie down in the last four frames. He retired the final 13 hitters he faced. Eisenach tossed the complete game for the victory, allowing just the two runs on eight hits with one walk and eight strike-outs.

Alex Jordan led the Rangers with two hits and two stolen bases. He also threw out two runners trying to steal and picked off two others. Mitchell added two hits, including a double.

Laramie (29-19) will take on the Cody Cubs (29-33), who lost to the Wheatland Lobos 14-8 on Wednesday, in a loser out game at 9:30 Thursday morning at Mike Lansing Field.
