The Lady Plainsmen split in volleyball and came in second in swimming and diving last weekend in Laramie and Gillette, respectively.

Laramie hosted Sheridan and third-ranked Gillette on the volleyball court.

Friday night, the Lady Plainsmen swept Sheridan in three sets. The scores were 25-21, 25-22 and 25-20. Sara Gabriel had nine kills and eight digs with three service aces. Katie Welniak added seven kills and 11 digs. Shyann Bastian had 29 assists and a team high five aces.

No. 3 Gillette came in and beat Laramie in four sets for the second time this season. The match scores went 26-24, 21-25, 22-25 and 17-25. Gabriel had 11 kills, Jennifer Aadland finished with nine kills while Welniak and Caely Pickerd added seven apiece. Bastian finished with 41 assists and eight digs.

The Lady Plainsmen are 10-15 on the season and 3-4 in the 4-A East Conference.

They return to action with only one match this week. It’s at Cheyenne South Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Lady Plainsmen Swimming and Diving

After a pre-invite last Friday, the Laramie ladies ended up in second place at the Gillette Invitational last Saturday.

The Lady Plainsmen won only one event and finished with 416.5 team points. Gillette won the 17-team event with 646 points.

Senior Ryleigh Kobbe captured first place on the diving board with a total score of 403.85 to stay undefeated on the season.

LHS had five more top-5 finishes. Freshman Catie Weathermon came in third place in the 50 freestyle. Senior Jennifer Snyder was fourth in the 100 freestyle, while sophomore Michaela Pooler ended up fourth in diving. Sophomore Maggie Clerkin was fifth in both the 200 and 500 freestyle.

Laramie did not gain any more state qualifiers, but did pick up a number of new events according to head coach Tom Hudson. They have 23 qualifiers this season.

The Lady Plainsmen finish their dual season at Rawlins Tuesday. The meet will start at 5 p.m.
