Both the City Council and the Albany County Commission will meet tonight at 6 p.m. for a joint work session. The meeting will take place in the City Hall council chambers. The joint session will be discussing a recent study by Trihydro in regards to Interstate 80, Telephone Canyon and the Casper Aquifer.

The city and county obtain water from the Casper Aquifer and according to Trihydro the Casper formation which contains the aquifer is fractured, faulted and folding. Interstate 80 travels through Telephone Canyon and in some areas the canyon connects to the aquifer, leaving it vulnerable to pollution, spills and other vehicle related happenings. The report hopes to provide emergency responses as well as mitigation engineering recommendations. The report also hopes to give associated cost alternatives for addressing hazardous material release within the canyon.
