Energy Share of Wyoming is now taking applications to help people with energy related emergencies, according to a news release.

The release says Energy Share is available for situations "where energy-related emergencies when unusual circumstances create financial needs not met through existing energy assistance programs"

Energy Share of Wyoming is a cooperative effort among several different organizations, including : The Align Team, Black Hills Energy, Enbridge, Montana Dakota Utilities, Rocky Mountain PERC, Rocky Mountain Power and Wyoming Rural Electric Association. Partners include: The Salvation Army, First Stop Help Center-Lander, Sweetwater Family Resource Center-Rock Springs and Laramie Interfaith.

Households In 12 Wyoming Counties Were Helped Last Year

“During the 2024-25 heating season, Energy Share of Wyoming raised $107,981.59 in private and corporate donations to assist 236 households in 12 counties throughout Wyoming,” said Laurie Farkas, president of the Energy Share of Wyoming board of directors. “Total distributions for energy bill and propane bill assistance totaled $75,422.58.”

Applicants who are at or above 225 percent of the Federal Poverty Level get first priority. Senior Citizens and the disabled get special consideration, according to the release. A one-time expenditure of up to $500 per household is available. The release says Rocky Mountain PERC has donated funds to support one-time payments of $500 to Wyoming propane customers.

According to the release Funding decisions are made by The Salvation Army and some community resource centers which review applications and assess eligibility based on need, lack of other resources and available Energy Share funds. Individuals interested in applying for funds should contact their local Salvation Army or Community Resource Center.
