Sweet Melissa's Cafe in Laramie has been awarded a "Souper Vegan Award" from People For Ethical Treatment of Animals, or PETA.

Award Given For Three Bean Chili

The recognition was for the restaurant's three bean chili. In the words of a news release from PETA "The meat-free eatery’s mouthwatering 3 Bean Chili features pinto, kidney, and black beans, slow-cooked with onions, tomatoes, green peppers, and corn. The hearty dish is a local favorite that’s been on the menu since the café opened in 1999."

Sweet Melissa's Chili was one of only ten such dishes chosen from across the country for the award. The PETA Souper Vegan Awards page gives the chili high praise: "Sweet Melissa Café has long been a haven for diners seeking vegetable-forward meals in Wyoming, and its 3 Bean Chili is a testament to how satisfying simple ingredients can be. Pinto, kidney, and black beans simmer together with tomatoes, onions, green peppers, and corn to create a thick, hearty chili that’s as delicious as it is filling."
