The man who sparked an hours-long manhunt in Pine Bluffs Tuesday, which included a community lockdown, allegedly assaulted his grandma with a chair and discharged a shotgun within the home before fleeing the scene, police say.

According to Chief Austin Smith, it all started around 4:09 p.m. after his department was called to a report of a domestic violence incident at 515 Blair St.

Smith says upon arrival, officers and a Laramie County Sheriff's deputy encountered the suspect, later identified as 26-year-old Tyler Pohlman, who fled back into the home.

"Shortly thereafter, a loud bang was heard, and a window was observed broken from within the home," Smith said in a press release.

"Law enforcement attempted to contain the suspect, but he managed to escape through the rear exit on foot," he added.

Smith says coordinated efforts were quickly mobilized and after a thorough search, Pohlman was located and arrested.

"(We) would like to express gratitude to all first responders for their swift and effective actions in containing the situation, arresting the suspect, and securing the community (and extend our) appreciation to the community for their trust and cooperation during this challenging situation," said Smith.

Responding agencies included the Laramie County Sheriff’s Office, the Laramie County Combined Communications Center, the Cheyenne Police Department, the Cheyenne/Laramie County SWAT Team, the Wyoming Game and Fish Department, the United States Marshals Service, and the Wyoming Highway Patrol.

Pine Bluffs EMS, AMR, and Fire District 5 were also on standby to provide medical assistance and emergency services.
