According to a fatality crash summary, 67-year-old California resident Mark Byrd was negotiating a right-hand curve when his Harley-Davidson stared to wobble and he lost control of the bike, riding off the road and into the ditch.

"The motorcycle traveled about 400 feet before tripping and hitting the fence," the summary reads. "The motorbike flipped at least twice, throwing the driver off the bike."

Byrd was wearing a helmet but, sadly, did not survive his injuries.

Speed, Driver Fatigue Possibly to Blame

The summary lists speed and driver fatigue/asleep as possible contributing factors.

Byrd is the eighth reported motorcyclist to die on Wyoming's highways this year.

America's Worst States for Motorcycle Safety

Easton & Easton Law Offices ranked the most dangerous states for motorcyclists in 2025 using crash data from NHTSA and IIHS. Factors included fatal crash rates, deaths per 10,000 bikes, and impaired driving. Each factor was weighted, normalized, and totaled for a final score, with higher scores meaning greater danger for riders.
