Speed Possibly to Blame in Fatal Niobrara County Crash

A 67-year-old South Dakota man is dead after rolling his pickup in eastern Wyoming's Niobrara County, the Wyoming Highway Patrol says.

The crash happened around 11:50 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14, at milepost 105.1 on Wyoming 270, north of Manville.

According to a fatality crash summary, James Arnold was behind the wheel of a northbound Ford F-250 when he failed to negotiate a downhill right-hand curve.

"The Ford traveled off the roadway to the west and entered a driver-side slide," the summary reads. "The Ford tripped and rolled one complete rotation."

Sadly, Arnold, who was not wearing a seat belt, didn't survive the crash.

Speed Possibly to Blame

The summary lists speed as a possible contributing factor.

There have been 76 reported fatal crashes in Wyoming this year, resulting in 84 deaths.
