A 66-year-old Wyoming man is dead after hydroplaning into oncoming traffic and being T-boned by a semi, the Wyoming Highway Patrol says.

The crash happened around 6:48 p.m. on Wednesday, July 30, at milepost 48 on Wyoming 220 near Muddy Gap.

According to a fatality crash summary, William Jones was behind the wheel of a westbound Mercedes-Benz when he started to hydroplane, causing the vehicle to enter a passenger-side leading slide and cross the centerline into the path of an oncoming semi.

"The tractor-trailer combination's front bumper struck the Mercedes-Benz's passenger-side front quarter panel," the summary reads.

Sadly, Jones, who was wearing his seat belt, did not survive his injuries.

Another person was also reportedly injured in the crash, and one was uninjured.

Speed a Possible Contributing Factor

The summary says it was raining, hailing, and severely windy at the time of the crash and the highway had slush and water standing and running on it.

Speed is listed as a possible contributing factor.

Jones is the 70th reported person to die on Wyoming's highways this year.
