Wyoming Highway Patrol troopers arrested three people and seized 170 pounds of marijuana in a traffic stop on Interstate 80 Saturday morning, the agency in a Facebook post early Thursday afternoon said.

According to the post, it all started when a trooper pulled over an SUV near Green River for several traffic violations.

When the trooper walked up to the SUV, he reportedly smelled marijuana coming from the SUV and had the three occupants get out of the SUV and sit in the ditch next to the interstate.

"While the Trooper was conducting his investigation the backseat passenger fled on foot," the post reads. "With the assistance of nearby officers and deputies, the fleeing suspect was caught."

When troopers searched the SUV, they reportedly found 170 pounds of marijuana.

All three suspects were subsequently arrested and taken to jail.

"The Wyoming Highway Patrol would like to thank the Green River Police Department and the Sweetwater County Sheriff's Office for their assistance in this case," the post reads.
