
Wanted Cheyenne Woman Caught Shoplifting, Hit With Felony Charge
A 40-year-old Cheyenne woman being sought on three warrants is behind bars after she was reportedly caught shoplifting again.
According to a booking sheet, police were called to the Walmart at 2032 Dell Range Blvd. at 9:46 a.m. on Friday, April 4, after Sonya Mae Ortega-Lopez reportedly selected $1,194.84 worth of merchandise and passed all points of sale without paying for any items.
Police say Ortega-Lopez "has been trespassed from all Walmart business since Sept. 30, 2024."
3 Warrants
Police say when they ran Ortega-Lopez's name, they discovered she had two active warrants out of Cheyenne Municipal Court for failure to appear on original charges of shoplifting $100-$300 and giving false identification.
Judge David Singleton signed the warrants on March 17, 2025.
Police say Ortega-Lopez also had an active warrant out of Albany County Circuit Court for felony forgery.
Judge Robert Sanford signed the warrant on March 24, 2025.
Ortega-Lopez Charged With Felony Theft
Ortega-Lopez was arrested and taken to the Laramie County Detention Center, where she was booked on her warrants, and subsequently charged with felony theft, a crime punishable by up to 10 years in prison, up to a $10,000 fine, or both.

Bond Set at $7.5K Cash
On Tuesday, April 8, Ortega-Lopez was seen in Laramie County Circuit Court on the felony theft charge.
Her bond was set at $7,500 cash and her preliminary hearing was scheduled for Thursday, April 17, at 1:30 p.m.
