Cheyenne Man Killed in Stabbing Identified; Suspect Claims Self-Defense
The Laramie County Sheriff's Office has identified the Cheyenne man killed in last Thursday's stabbing in south Cheyenne as 55-year-old Gregory Meyer.
According to Public Information Officer Brandon Warner, deputies were called to the scene in the 2000 block of Mary Way at 7:27 p.m.
"There was an argument between Joseph Gish and Meyer while in the home," Warner in a news release on Monday afternoon said.
"During the incident, Meyer was stabbed and later succumbed to his injury and was pronounced deceased at the hospital," Warner added.
Gish Claims Self-Defense
According to a booking sheet, Gish stabbed Meyer in the left chest with a four-inch folding pocket knife and told the arresting officer he used the knife in self-defense.
"(Gish) said he did not intentionally stab Meyer but felt threatened by Meyer as a threat to his and his daughter's life," the booking sheet reads.
Warner says Gish, his daughter, and his estranged wife lived in the home together, and Meyer, Gish's wife's boyfriend, would stay there some.
Gish Charged With Voluntary Manslaughter, Bond Set at $20K Cash
Gish was arrested and charged with voluntary manslaughter, a felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison.

Gish made his initial appearance in Laramie County Circuit Court on Monday morning, during which his bond was set at $20,000 cash and his preliminary hearing was scheduled for next Monday, Dec. 23 at 3 p.m.
