Laramie County School District#1 schools will be closed on Friday due to a damaging wind storm that has rocked southeast Wyoming.

The district issued this statement on Thursday evening:

"Laramie County School District #1 will be closed on Friday, March 13, 2026, due to ongoing power outages, community cleanup efforts, and high winds. Because of continued power and internet disruptions, there will be no virtual learning.High winds are expected to further impact restoration efforts, and widespread outages and limited utilities in our schools make it unsafe to operate.
We appreciate your patience and understanding"

Wind gusts of up to 90 miles per hour rocked Cheyenne on Thursday, causing power outages, uprooting trees and causing widespread property and building damage.

Partly sunny, with a high near 64. Windy, with a west wind 20 to 25 mph increasing to 30 to 35 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 55 mph.
Saturday Night
A chance of rain and snow showers before midnight, then snow showers. Low around 15. Windy, with a west wind 30 to 35 mph, with gusts as high as 55 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%.
Sunday
A 50 percent chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 28. Blustery.
 Meanwhile, Black Hills Energy is warning Cheyenne residents to be prepared for power outages through Saturday.
